Argentine Association for the Research on the History of Women and Gender Studies

[AAIHMEG, by its Spanish acronym] is a professional feminist organization whose members are academics at various stages of their careers—from students to pioneering authors and scholar-activists. In addition to supporting members’ scholarly work, AAIHMEG is also committed to public-facing interventions in timely political debates and to contributing critical perspectives on a variety of topics through feminist, queer, intersectional, decolonial, and transnational lenses. It was established by a general meeting on 27 July 2017, attended by representatives from universities, centres and institutes across the country. In accordance with the constitution approved at that same general meeting, full membership of the association is open to adults who regularly carry out research in Women’s History and Gender Studies, as demonstrated by their academic output, and who come from the fields of the Social Sciences and the Humanities. AAIHMEG is the foremost professional women’s and gender studies organization in Argentina, with regional latin american reach.

The organization’s purpose and focus include the following:

● Gather, promote, and make visible research related to the history of women and gender studies throughout the country within a framework of utmost respect for academic, political, and ideological pluralism, based on respect for human rights;

● Disseminate and support the organization of conferences, symposium, seminars, courses, and other activities related to the history of women and gender studies;

● Establish formal linkages with local, regional, and international organizations, with public or private institutions, national or foreign, and with organizations in the women’s and feminist movements aligned with the objectives of the Association;

● Encourage public interest and raise awareness through communication and education on issues pertaining to gender relations and the deconstruction of hierarchical, asymmetrical, and patriarchal relations between the sexes;

● Promote the preservation and public access to archives, documents, and testimonies related to the history of women and gender studies.

AAIHMEG is a

Federal, democratic, diverse, and plural association that brings together researchers in women’s history and gender studies from across Argentina. Through research, publications, academic gatherings, public education, and the preservation of archives and testimonies, its members work to ensure that women’s histories and feminist knowledge are studied, shared, and recognized.

The Association is a member of the International Federation for the Research in Women’s History (IFRWH). Since 2018, we have been doing this through the Federation’s newsletter, a channel for disseminating and promoting updates on activities carried out in various countries around the world, which is published twice a year. Paula Lucía Aguilar serves as a representative of the AAIHMEG on the IFRWH Board for the 2025–2030 term.
